im wrinting a research paper on the effects of bulimia over a 6 month period. ive found alot of info, but i cant find the average weight loss of a person with bulimia ova a six month time span. does anyone kno the answer?
Answer:
It all depends on numerous variables. The basic formula for losing weight is burning more calories than you consume. When you are bulimic you consume calories but they don't all stay. You can consume a couple hundred calories to thousands and you can keep them in or purge them out. This changes on a daily basis for bulimics. Some days they binge and purge thousands of calories and some days they don't eat at all and some days they don't purge at all. Being bulimic doesn't necessarily mean that you lose weight or are even skinny. It just means that you binge and purge. There is no way to specify an average weight loss because there are so many differnt ways that bulimics operate.
i dont think there are 'rules' when it comes to something like bulimia, particularly with regard to actual weight loss. there are just way to many variables which would make me skeptical of any 'average' amount of weight loss obtained.
such as:
the original weight of person
whether they are male/female
how often they purge
etc...
It varies from person to person. Some bulimics lose weight, some stay the same weight and some gain weight. When I had Bulimia, I can't have lost more than 15lb in weight, but what was really happening is I was losing muscle and gaining fat in it's place. I was essentially getting fatter, when I wanted to be thinner.talk about ironic!HTH : )
Actually, people with bulimia tend not to lose that much weight. They tend to maintain a more normal size, unlike people who suffer from anorexia who have more drastic weight loss.
